This year of coaster construction updates has officially begun! First off the blocks is the construction at the wonderful ride at Quassy Amusement Park. It’s great to be on this journey with Quassy in the creation of this lasting transformation of their park. Seeing physical evidence of this construction is great to see and gets us even more excited for the ride and the park.

Eric Anderson, a Quassy Amusement Park owner, sits atop a sea of lumber Saturday as the park prepares to start building its new wooden roller coaster, designed by The Gravity Group
Here are the first construction photos of the yet-unnamed Quassy wooden roller coaster. The first photos shows Eric Anderson, a co-owner of the park, as king of the mountain of wood.
Of course the wood needs to be held together. How about some bolts? Eric, now the inspector, investigates one of them.

The Nuts & Bolts Of It All – Thousands of nuts and bolts are in storage, ready for construction of the new wooden roller coaster at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, Conn.
We’ll keep you posted on the latest photos and developments here via Gravitycast and on our Facebook page. Also be sure to “like” Quassy on Facebook for their most recent updates. Special thanks go out to Ron Gustafson at Quassy for passing these photos on to us.

As part of our company’s benefits package – just kidding – our landlord holds a little fun day for the office building. This year Kona Ice supplied tropical shaved ice which was very refreshing and delicious. The music on their website gives you the soundtrack for the afternoon.
This year they had the privilege of supplying more goodies as our team has temporarily grown to seven to handle the many projects on our plate. Our two new team members are drafting guru Dave Jewell and engineering intern Jonathan Wocher from Ohio State’s Theme Park Engineering Group. We are thrilled to have them on board as there are reams of drawings to produce for the various jobs.
This next year is certainly going to be a banner year for The Gravity Group & Gravitykraft with many projects in addition to the underway Voyage Timberliner installation. The first announced ride is the peppy smaller wooden coaster at Quassy Amusement Park in Connecticut. The second coaster on which we are working is the historic recreation of the Zippin Pippin from Memphis headed to Green Bay’s Bay Beach Amusement Park. Also, you can’t forget about the awesome China racing / dueling coaster. For these last two rides we are working with Martin & Vleminckx to provide the engineering.
So it is nice to step out of the office churning with drawings for a quick spell where the only stress you have is choosing what flavor of shaved ice sounds the best. Of course even this task is not as easy as it should be; there were over 50 flavors!
…nice
We have some Timberliner testing information to post from Holiday World’s Facebook page.
Timberliners Update: Our friends at The Gravity Group (Gravitykraft) are continuing their work on refinements to the new train design. Since we’re in full throttle with the season, we will not have sufficient chunks of time for testing until we’re back to weekends-only operation. We’ll keep you updated with progress as we move into “weekends-only” after August 15. Thanks for your patience — they’ll be worth the wait! Meanwhile, The Voyage is running great using the original trains. :0)
